Noel Baker School/Derby Trailblazers were crowned the Under-19 Premier Schools champions today after beating defending champions Loreto 6th Form College 73-67 in the final at TCAT, Telford.
Rema Lascelles (1992 born) was named MVP, flirting with a quadruple double in the final as he dropped 20 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 9 steals. It was a fine end to the season for Noel Baker, who are linked with Division 1 side Derby Trailblazers, as they went 6-0 through the regular season to finish with a perfect record.
Derby Trailblazer Academy head coach Matt Shaw was extremely pleased to win the title:
“The two games were probably the best we have played all year which is pleasing as the level
of competition was extremely high. It was a true team effort with some big performances from a number
of players in the final. I’d like to thank Noel Baker School who have invested into the academy and allow
the players academic flexibility to attend practices and games. The academy has only been in operation
for two years so it’s a huge achievement to win a National Schools championship”.
Copleston High School took third place in the country after beating Barking Abbey 84-75 in the third place playoff.
