What happened to Jack Griffiths from last year under 16s? Any reason as to why he wasn’t selected.. Injured?

Jack Griffiths underwent ankle ligament reconstruction surgery 2 weeks ago to repair the injury he suffered playing for Cheshire Junior Jets against Solent in the final 4 semi earlier this year. A game the Jets won and he top scored in. He had recovered sufficiently to play in the Euros but had been at 75% since getting injured. He now plays for Bristol Academy Flyers Div 1 and is getting plenty of minutes early in the games even when Bristol are down.

Adam Jones – best point guard BY-Far at the u17 regional tournament…

Alex Fortnam – highly skilled big who can shoot and is well suited to Euro ball. Also looked impressive at the tournament

Josh McSwiggan – one of the best 95′ born players in the country *no doubt!

Now call me a NW guy but why the hell are these three not even given the chance to trial? One player (besides Tamas, u16) selected from the NW. Is this an actual JOKE. Why must we continually fail these talented players who are throughout the country!

Seriously how is Ben Colley not on this list – the one who won the shooting comp and drained 16 threes in a row!

Josh Guddemi, Omari Coates, Greg Krippa, Jack Griffiths

^ Those four and what about Jon Orrells? The guys who got the U16s promoted not good enough? Orrells also getting minutes with Bristol Flyers D1 men. Agree with Ubaka, there hasn’t been a guard in the country who has been able to contain him nor a big he can’t finish over, nor a guard who can beat him off the dribble anywhere on the court. I don’t think the coaches really know what is going on outside of London and the Midlands.

all england set ups are a farce! last years u18s were missing several great players that went at 93s u16s team then werent even given a chance at u18s!
there is some northern coaches needed aswell, always the same story .. southern coaches southern players!
the national team system need A LOT of work doing to it, i agree with 4and44 with the london comment too!

I would expect a lot of this team will be made up of the 95s who gained promotion. Not sure some of the 94s who were involved last year will be up to it, except maybe Spencer and Sentance. Would love for Josh Ward-Hibbert to be involved again as he might be the most talented player on this list.

Sentence – maybe
Spencer – ????

He has some flaws (lack of size for one) but can score and I like his defensive intensity. I haven’t seen most of the 95s play so don’t really know what his competition at PG will be like though?

Hopefully the U18s will be playing at the Haris tournament again so we can get an early look at how the team is shaping up.

do not really care about size for PG
He is a good player in general but lacks specific PG skills in my opinion.

jack Griffiths and John Orrels both played limited minutes (last minutes of already won games) in the summer and it is understandable that they are not included – nothing personal, its just a fact that there are better players than them.

i think that for the under 17 team you need to take a look at Jamie Percival. he hasnt been given a chance and from what i have heard and seen of him he can ball

i agree. i have seen him play a few times and was impressed. Thing is he is a young 95 has been over-looked

Pg – Luke Nelson
Sg – Mo Soluade
Shooting Forward – Elliott Sentence

Pretty good back court if you ask me.

Luke Nelson????
He is rather SG and not a very good one

Put the personalalities aside for a minute, when are they to announce the short list?
Is the Haris tournament going ahead ?
Who have they picked ?
What about those playing away from home ?

Matt December 5, 2011 at 8:42 pm

The Haris tournament is going ahead, but this year the U16s are playing there instead of the U18s. Not sure what the U18s have planned for the Christmas period.

Who is a better ’1′ in that age group than Luke Nelson – ‘Ted’

Reply

ted December 3, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Luke Nelson is a SG. He lacks PG skills. Just look at the turnovers. Most PG work at the European Championship was done by Mo Soluade. As SG I believe that Sentence and Mo Soluade are better. As simple as that. They also have a new SG from Spain (from Estudiantes).

Who is the new guy from Spain?

S'me Again December 6, 2011 at 9:11 pm

He’s not new – went to Euro’s U18′s last year! He’s now an experienced Euro squad member

Reply

Matt December 13, 2011 at 1:37 pm

If you mean Sainsbury-Garcia, he’s a forward. Definitely not a guard – that’s why I thought Ted was referring to someone new.

ted December 3, 2011 at 11:23 pm

Isaacs, Jack Griffiths, Coates, Norton and some others

Tony D December 3, 2011 at 9:29 pm

Luke Nelson scored 29 points for England at the European Championships in the promotion winning game against Isreal and then 23 in the final against Slovenia. As the tournament went on he became more and more important to the most successful England junior team ever – playing 100% of his minutes as a 1! Anyone saying he’s no good needs to back their arguement up with some facts!

Definitely the Under-16s at Harris Tournament this year. Not 100% sure what the Under-18s are doing but I believe they may be heading to Belgium…
