Robert Gilchrist Commits to Florida State

Robert Gilchrist has committed to FSU

Former England international Robert Gilchrist (1990 born) has committed to NCAA Division 1 school Florida State University.

Heading into his sophomore year at JUCO Polk State, the former Barking Abbey academy player will join the Seminoles for the 2012/13 season, where he will have two years of eligibility left.

Having narrowed down his choices to Baylor and Florida State, 6’9″ Gilchrist told Hoopsfix he felt he had a better opportunity in Florida, and with the ACC now being far and away the toughest conference in college basketball, the athletic forward is excited to face the competition it will bring:

“I’m looking forward to playing for an established coach that has high hopes for me and the chance to play against the likes of Duke, North Carolina and Maryland. With Syracuse and Pittsburgh now joining the ACC, I will have two years of playing some of the best names in college basketball.

“Coming out of JUCO and being one of the older players, I will have a good role on the team. I’ll be playing the 3/4, playing mismatch ball on a running team. I am sure it will be a great situation for me.””

The Londoner moved to the US to attend Worcester Academy (MA) prep school in 2009 after having spent two years at East London’s Barking Abbey, from there he enrolled at Polk State, where he made all-conference first team after his freshman year and was amongst the nation’s leaders in blocked shots. He was also recruited by the likes of Marquette, Oklahoma, Texas, Memphis and Washington State, to name a few.

Hoopsfix wants to wish Rob all the best with the next stage of his basketball career! We will be following.
