England Under-16 women will join the recently promoted under-16 men in Division A next year after beating Latvia 51-40 in the Division B European Championship semi-finals on Saturday, in Arad, Romania.
The England side become the second team to gain promotion to Division A this summer, and are now the third team from Great Britain to be in the top tier, joining the aforementioned England U16 men and the Great Britain Under-20 women.
Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and Cheridene Green had 15 points apiece as England hit 15 unanswered points in the first half to overturn an early deficit. Although Latvia made a run in the fourth quarter, a 12-4 finish by England proved enough to seal the victory.
England are 6-1 through the tournament so far, suffering just one early loss to Slovenia by two points. Shequila Joseph (pictured) has been their top player, averaging 13.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.1 steals per game, being amongst the leaders in a number of different statistical categories.
Karen Burton’s side will now look to do what the England U16 men couldn’t do, and win the final when they take on Germany on Sunday afternoon. They will be underdogs going into the game, with Germany being undefeated so far through the tournament.

I have to admit I was surprised to see this on here – by the way thanks for replying on another comment and I understand your position.
I would like to add that this group went into the competition as one of the favourites, The core players from last year which was 7 players returned this year so this result was expected
Leah McDerment has just completed her third championship and can play U16 again next year. She almost sent the game today into overtime in a close loss to Germany (66-63).
I would ask nicely can somebody teach this lot how to take free-throws, they were terrible and at times embarrassing.
All the same well done to everybody and like I did mention in another comment we now half our youth programme in Div A. So let hope we can do something about the U18 programme and the U20 men next year
