England took third place in the Cherbourg International Junior Basketball Tournament this weekend after beating Manchester Magic 63-56 in the third place playoff after being defeated in the semi finals to Switzerland. It is an improvement on their sixth place finish last year and will have provided Head Coach Steve Bucknall with a clearer idea of who he will be taking to the European Championships this summer. How come the national team only beat manchester by 7? thought it would of been a bigger margin

first of all they have been playing together for longer and at this point in time are probably more drilled

Rob , Most of that Manchester team have played together since they were 13-14 yrs old , they have all the tools on court due to the time they have played together , plus Paul Middleton is a very good underated coach!!

I agree that the manchester team is more drilled, however, i doubt they are drilled to play without their only true big man who was playing for England.
Top spark, again I agree with you. What I have seen Paul appears a good coach and has the silver wear to suggest it, but likewise with England players the England coaches should be the best available.
I am not questioning the england staff or players, I just dont find confidence in only beating an english club team by 7. I hope they prove me wrong in time for Euros.

rob,
i understand why you are worried but didnt England beat manchester by 20+ points in the Haris Memorial?
The england team is developing at a steady pace. unfortunately they missed out on a few players at Cherbourg

IT IS FAIR TO SAY THAT ENGLAND SHOULD BEAT MANCHESTER BY 7 POINTS, BUT THE TOURNAMENT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAD PLAYED TOGETHER AS A TEAM, AND THEY DONT PLAY TOGETHER MUCH BEFORE THE EURO`S THATS WHY ENGLAND DONT DO TO WELL ,THEY NEED MORE COURT TIME TOGETHER…
