Pops won't be wearing a CSKA Moscow strip next season

TalkBasket.net are reporting CSKA Moscow won’t be renewing Team GB star Pops Mensah-Bonsu’s contract for next season. In an interview Russian paper Gazeta.ru CSKA’s GM Andrey Vatutin stated;

“Pops was one of the most interesting cases of last season. In some games he was effective and some other games not so effective. From a marketing standpoint if Russia had a real market for basketball the club could afford offering the player a new contract and then even make profit selling Pops’ t-shirts

He will be remembered by the fans, but we won’t be offering him a new contract. He will probably try to find a team in NBA to play for and has some offers from Spain. In any case he said that Russia has been a great experience for him”

It is rumoured DKV Joventut has already offered Pops a contract. Whatever the situation, let’s hope it doesn’t interfere with his Team GB plans!

Argh, this was my worry…remember last year he didn’t sign an NBA contract until late August. It could happen again…

If Pops doesn’t play we are VERY thin up front.
