Alistair Mackay, the 6’10, 195lbs big man out of Scotland has verbally committed to NCAA Division 1 school Davidson College.
Mackay (D.O.B-10/12/91), who is currently at the GB U20 training camp, has spent the last year working with Tim Lewis down in Essex, and previously played for the City of Edinburgh Kings. He also captained the Scotland U18 team at least years European Championsips in Sarajevo.
The Davidson Wildcats, located in North Carolina, compete in the Southern Conference and made it to the Elite 8 in 2008. Last year they went 16-15 (11-7). Hoopfix wants to wish Ali all the best with his NCAA career, I will be following!

Shame Stephen Curry is already in the NBA otherwise we probably would have seen him on ESPN America come March lol.
I haven’t seen Ali play, but at 6-10/195 I’m guessing he’s a four? There’s lots of competition in the Davidson frontcourt – they have Jake Cohen, the Southern Conference freshman of the year, and our own Ben Allison of course.
With Ali and Ben at Davidson, and Tom Pereira joining Justin Robinson at Rider, it seems like certain NCAA coaches are looking to develop a recruiting ‘pipeline’ to the UK, which is great news for players looking to go to the States. We could end up with a program built around British talent, like St Mary’s (who reached the Sweet 16 this year) have done with Australians (http://j.mp/95bS0Y).
Davidson also has 6-10/230, Frank Ben-Eze, from Nigeria, in the frountcourt along with incoming freshman 6-7/220 DeMon Brooks. Playing time for Ali is probably going to be scarce in his first and second year unless he is a great rebounded and defender.
195 lbs for a 6’10 guy, maybe the weight room this summer then! obviously never seen him play, he could be very skilled like a mchale/gasol type player.
