Durham Wildcats Crush Westminster To Win Patron’s Cup

The Durham Wildcats cruised to an easy 96-70 victory over the Westminster Warriors yesterday to win the Patron’s Cup Final. They were never challenged throughout the game, and never gave up their lead from the opening tip.

It was a game that should have been a lot more competitive, with Warriors having beaten the Wildcats in their only previous meeting this season. Westminster never seemed to wake up and had no answer for the ball movement and outside shooting of a well drilled Durham team.

The Wildcats were led by Scott Morton who was named MVP on the back of a 29 point, 7 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal effort. He seemed unstoppable at times, though it surprised me to see he only shot 11/22 from the field when looking at the box score, seemed a lot higher.

His partner in crime Paul Elderkin, who I predicted would drop 40 before the game, struggled shooting the ball (4/21) finishing with 15 points but found other ways to contribute, grabbing 9 rebounds, handing out 5 assists and swiping 4 steals.

Westminster Warriors had every player on the roster score, and were led by Jon J Johnson’s 10 points.

Highlight of the game? Paul Elderkin almost smashed a huge two handed lob from Scott Morton but it hit the back of the rim and flew out.
